In a significant step toward expanding our services, AAU has been breathing new life into our Major Street office in the Ballpark neighborhood since July. This building, which served as our main office until we relocated 14 years ago, is now being transformed from a dormant storage space into a vibrant center for community support.
A History of Service, A Future to Thrive
For nine years, the first floor of our Major Street office has served as a crucial drop-in center for survivors of human trafficking. As the needs of our community grew, so did the urgency to expand our capacity. Thanks to the generous support of Lowe's Hometowns program, we've now accomplished what once seemed impossible: reactivating the garage, second and third floors that had sat dormant for 14 years.
Thank You to Lowe's
On October 22-23, 30 Lowe's associates from stores across greater Salt Lake City came together with a shared mission. Their impact was transformative:
- Prepped and painted 10 offices
- Renovated 2 conference rooms
- Refreshed 2 hallways
- Revitalized the entire 3rd floor meeting area
- Replaced ceiling tiles throughout
- Assembled and distributed furniture
- Power washed the building
- Deep cleaned all carpets
Under the exceptional leadership of Colton Massa and Amanda from the West Valley store, the Lowe's team not only met but exceeded our renovation goals, creating spaces that truly serve our mission.
Why This Matters
Our Major Street facility sits in an area where human trafficking risks are significant. Each week, we offer vital services to vulnerable community members, including:
- Basic necessities (food, clothing, personal care items)
- Medical screening and treatment
- Housing services
- Crisis case management
- Emotional support
- Peer support
- Transportation assistance
- Harm reduction services
Through collaboration with four partner agencies, we ensure these critical services reach those who need them most.
