The festival was first created when an influx of Southeast Asian refugees began settling in Utah. In order to build a bridge between these new minority groups and the larger community, the Chinese, Japanese and Korean communities pooled their resources together for this historic event. This marked the first collaboration between these groups, and the Utah Asian Festival is proud to be Utah’s first multi-cultural festival.
The Utah Asian Festival occurs annually in June. The festival takes nearly 500 volunteers from over 10 countries to pull off. Through the generous support of Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts, Parks, the Utah Arts Council, and corporate and private donors, the festival is free and open to all.
