Neighborhood Happenings: June 2016

Dear friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend and were able to take time to celebrate and relax with family and friends.  Despite two of our programs taking time off last month, it felt like we were as busy as ever.  We launched the heavily volunteer-driven Sunnyvale Summer Fun program to connect and engage our local youth in fun activities and events during the Sunnyvale Farmer’s Market each Saturday.  It’s been a great success and another way for Sunnyvale Neighborhood Center to reach out to the community and let them know we care.  We want to thank Aimee McConkie of the local non-profit Millcreek Venture Out for the incredible support she has provided each Saturday, we honestly couldn’t do it without her.  Salt Lake County is also joining in the effort and will host their first of four events, a Community Celebration, on July 16th from 3-6pm.  Check out our Facebook page for pictures and updates each week until October 8th (market close).

The expansion remodel is wrapping up and the Sunnyvale Resident Advisory Committee has recently formed - their input will be valuable in helping us determine what additional programs find a home in the new space.  While the expansion has created what feels like a bit of chaos for us, one our volunteers put it in perspective by reminding me, “It’s called PROGRESS.”  Thanks as always for your continued support; we love each moment of progress and are grateful to be a resource to this community!
